Backend of
Hospitality

Over the course of four years, they spent approximately $75,000 on three failed attempts to create an application. After many failed attempts, they were ready to try something new.

Background

After spending seven years running a luxury wine travel and transportation business, one company’s CEO, Michael, understood that luxury hotel guests are looking for unique experiences. They want to know the best things to do in the area: where to eat, where to play, what live events are happening during their stay and more. Meanwhile, he saw that in today’s 5-star review-driven market, it has become imperative for hotels to ensure that guests’ 5-star experiences continue when they venture off the hotel property.

This entrepreneur’s solution is a hotel brand-based web application that would enable hotels to provide trusted recommendations, VIP experiences and selected events.

The challenge

Unlike many founders of application-based companies, Michael did not have a background in technology. Consequently, as he says, he made many mistakes.

Over the course of four years, he spent approximately $75,000 on three failed attempts to create the application. “We’d build something,” Michael says, “and then find out it wouldn’t do what we wanted it to do. So we were looking for a new development team and they insisted on starting over. At the end of the day, we were left with three different code bases, all of which were completely unusable!

Solution

After the company’s third failed attempt to create the application, Michael discovered Xano, the no-code back-end development platform that easily connects to any front-end.

“One problem we’ve had in the past,” Michael explains, “is that no one wanted to take on someone else’s complex backend technology debt. Xano solved this by completely eliminating the need for back-end coding. This drastically reduced development costs and gave us the ability to work with different front-end developers because any front-end developer can easily understand how Xano interacts with APIs.”

Results

By using Xano for the back-end of the application, he was able to launch his application in a matter of months. The application had all the features and functions Michael had envisioned, and was developed for about one-fifth the cost of each of the company’s three failed development attempts.

“The best thing about using Xano,” Michael shares, “is the combination of low cost and speed to market. Also, because of the way Xano is designed without code, we’ve been able to iterate on our product fairly quickly. With a new product, these early iterations can make or break a company. I highly recommend a Xano backend to anyone who wants to get their product to market quickly, easily and cost-effectively, especially startups that are still trying to determine the ideal product/market.”
